Steve Komphela has likened one of his side’s strikers to retired Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba following Lamontville’s Golden Arrows draw against rivals Royal AM in the KZN Derby.

Arrows will be disappointed with allowing the visitors to get back in the match after they had opened the scoring through Nguse’s shot that forced Zukile Mkhize to push the ball into his own net while trying to stop it.

Thwihli Thwahla levelled matters through substitute Khulekani Shezi in the second half.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Komphela heaped praise on his striker, going as far as describing some of the qualities he believes Nguse shares with the man named in the top 10 of Chelsea’s greatest-ever players.

"The way we play, we wish to create more situations where we can find ourselves running forward to the opponents’ goalposts," said Komphela.

"There’s been many instances where Arrows form a build-up and all of a sudden it's a counter-attack.

"So, we generate a lot of these artificial counter-attacks. And Nguse, by coming short, creating the space and indecision to the defenders... because a centre-back must decide, 'Do I follow him?'

"And if you follow him, you’re creating the space that can be exploited. Then we turn, then we go forward. Nguse drops, if you don’t follow him, he’s free, he gets the ball.

"So, we need to generate that. He understands that concept.

"When we pulled him out, you could feel that how we wish to attack got affected. He’s an integral part of how we wish to play.

"He’s deceptive, a Didier Drogba; he’s big. If he turns, he pushes the ball and he goes. And it is rare to find a situation where a big player is that fast and that powerful and he’s a clinical finisher."

The 25-year-old striker has been in thrilling form this season, scoring six goals from 19 appearances.

Meanwhile, Arrows will return to action when they take Cape Town City on Sunday.
