Stellenbosch FC 3-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC edged closer to the DStv Diski Challenge title after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Maroons, who have been a torn for many recently, hit the opener in the earlier stages through a telling effort by former Chippa United’s Thulani Mini.

Chiefs had no answer right throughout and unsurprisingly fell further behind as Mervin Boji tapped in a simple cutback and had Mini step up at the other end to find aim and complete his brace.

Cape Town City 3-1 Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town City claimed the bragging rights in the Cape derby and overcame Cape Town Spurs 3-1 to get back to winning ways.

Having lost last weekend to the leaders Stellenbosch FC, an own-goal from Jeander Gaffoor set the tone in the opening stages leaving before Shakeel April and Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout to add on.

With the Urban Warriors showing a bit of reluctance, the Citizens held firm and bagged the full complement of points in the end.

Orlando Pirates 4-2 Richards Bay FC

Orlando Pirates secured back-to-back victories in the DStv Diski Challenge with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Richards Bay FC on Saturday.

It was a dominant showing from the onset, as Simphiwe Masilela dispatched a cutback from Cemran Dansin and Cniso Mazibuko and made the deadlock after just seven minutes in.

Pirates resumed dominance after a brief surge from the visitors and extended the lead on the half-hour mark courtesy of a delightful free-kick by Jabulani Mokone.

The Natal Rich Boys continued to find the going tough and conceded a third just after halftime as a cutback from Dansin gave Tebogo Masemola the easiest of finishes.

However, the visitors did fight back as Wandile Ngema reduced the arrears and claimed a second to threaten a draw a little later through skipper Ashay Sewlali.

The Buccaneers took full control through in the latter stages and ensured victory courtesy of a long-range drive from Mehluleli Maphumulo.

Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 Royal AM

Mamelodi Sundowns recovered from a two-match winless streak to maintain second spot on the table after hammering Royal AM 3-0 in Atteridgeville.

The Brazilians came into the clash on the back of last weekend’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Kaizer Chiefs, whilst Royal dropped points against the defending champions SuperSport United.

However, the host were able to come in their own once more and emphatically put Thwihli Thwahla to the sword to keep their title hopes alive.

Sekhukhune United 5-0 SuperSport United

Defending champions SuperSport United came unstuck against Sekhukhune United and slumped to a disappointing 5-0 loss to leave them in fifth-place.

Matsatsantsa were in fine form before the match and actually had won their recent four encounters, but Babina Noko entered proceedings in tremendous form and it showed from the get-go.

Kearabilwe Mphalele’s brace were complemented by one each from Gift Ngobeni, Jordan Marks and Kutlwano Majoro put matters to bed and handed Matsatsantsa their heaviest defeat of the season.

AmaZulu 3-3 Polokwane City

AmaZulu came from a two-goal deficit to hold Polokwane City to a thrilling 3-3 draw following a bottom-half contest.

Rise and Shine, who have had a tough campaign and continue languishing at the bottom, raced to a two-goal lead before Mthokozisi Maseko responded and levelled to into the break level.

The host were behind again after the break, but managed to come good late on and secured a point when Sphamandla Zikhali bagged the equaliser following a goal-mouth scramble.

Chippa United 4-1 Moroka Swallows

Chippa United overturn a run of six consecutive defeats to brush Moroka Swallows aside 4-1 and cemented 13th spot on the table.

The Chilli Boys, who were in the top-half at this point last season, have a had tumultuous term this time around but in this occasion left nothing to chance and hit the ground running.

With the Dube Birds in the bottom-two, the damming defeat leaves them down there and unable to build on last week’s impressive victory over AmaZulu in Dobsonville.

TS Galaxy 2-1 Golden Arrows

TS Galaxy recorded their first win since January after seeing Golden Arrows 2-1 to remain in the bottom-half bracket on the table.

After a slow opening, the Rockets surged in front on the stroke of halftime courtesy of Thokozani Sibanyoni and raced further ahead afterwards through Dlambewu.

The boys from the KwaZulu-Natal province managed to half the arrears late on in the tie following a decent finish from Nhlakanipho Bhengu, but still suffered defeat.
