Stellenbosch FC hammered Milford FC 6-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup on Friday evening.

Following his sterling performance over Kaizer Chiefs in the previous round, goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza lined out again for the host whilst Stellies gave rare starts to the likes of Andre De Jong, Kyle Jurgens and Nhlanhla Mgaga.

Stellies were keen to settle first and did so when Devon Titus ran into the box unmarked to tap in Iqraam Rayners’ low cross from the left of the area.

Winger Antonio Van Wyk unfortunately couldn’t continue following a knock and this forced the Maroons to make an early substitution where Anicet Oura entered.

Oura made his mark just a few minutes after coming on when he combined neatly with Rayners and made a blind run to the near side of the area to finish into the bottom corner.

Stallions got a lifeline just before halftime as Menzi Chilli launched a late run in the box to get on the end of a loose clearance and rifled into the top corner.

The Maroons restored their two-goal cushion a minute later when Oura and Rayners combined once again to witness the Ivorian curl into the far post from a clever position.

Stellenbosch continued the scoring spree a minute in the second half after De Jong pounced on a poor bit of handling from Hleza to nestle in a well-placed pass.

The lanky forward added a brace in quick succession when he latched onto a flick-on from Rayners, who had a field day in attack, and finished beyond Hleza.

Milford battled immensely thereafter, with last season’s semi-finalist holding all the cards and interestingly eager to add to an already hefty score-line.

However, the Maroons were afforded the opportunity to try out 20-year-old Salifu Colley who came on for the man who opened proceedings Titus.

Stellies completed a fine evening’s work two minutes from time when substitute Mervin Boij slotted in from more poor defending by the host and settled the contest.
