Moroka Swallows ended an 11-game winless run in the DStv Premiership after a last-gasp 1-0 win over Cape Town Spurs on Sunday afternoon.
Swallows made four changes following their defeat against University of Pretoria in the Nedbank Cup, as they recalled Gabadinho Mhango, Kwanda Mngonyama, Lindokuhle Mtshali and Mashweu Mphahlele.
Spurs, on the other hand, gave Siphesihle Maduna his first start alongside the return of Rushwin Dortley, as two changes from their draw against Stellenbosch.
The Birds were more promising in attack in the early stages as Augustine Mahlonoko and Jacob Everson tested goalkeeper Neil Boshoff but they were not successful.
Spurs only gained momentum after the half-hour mark as Maduna had a threatening shot kept out of the bottom corner by shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi.
Ernst Middendorp's charges were on the up heading into the interval as Rafiq De Goede almost broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time with a header that missed narrowly wide from a set-piece.
Middendorp looked to up the tempo of their attack with a double change at half-time, as Bradley Ralani replaced Maduna and Luke Baartman came on for Liam Bern.
However, it was Swallows who started the second stanza on a high note and just after the hour-mark, Mahlonoko had a big chance in the box but was denied by Boshoff from close-range.
The Urban Warriors eventually found their rhythm after that and with 15 minutes to go, Baartman almost broke the deadlock with a header that missed narrowly wide from a cross by Ashley Cupido.
However, Mhango eventually snatched the lead for the Birds in the last minute from a strike in the box after a counter-attack and the win took the Soweto outfit up to 13th on the log, ten points clear of the relegation zone.
