Polokwane City ended a seven-match winless run with a 2-1 victory over Chippa United in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Manuel Kambala replaced Rodney Maphangule and Puleng Marema’s removal made a room for Nyakala Raphadu in City’s changes, whilst Elmo Kambindu was Chippa’s sole change from their win over Golden Arrows.

The exciting Oswin Appollis got the Rise and Shine in front with 15 minutes played when he worked the narrowest of angles to find the bottom-corner.

Kambindu went inches away to drawing the host level five minutes later with a first-time header following a delivery by Augustine Mulenga, but City shot-stopper Manuel Sapunga made a save.

City got further in front in the 25th minute after Appollis collected a delivery from Douglas Mapfumo and arrowed in the from the left of the six-yard box.

Kambinbdu was unfortunately not able to continue eight minutes later due to an injury he picked up and made way for the well-travelled Luvuyo Memela.

Both teams enjoyed bright moments following the break through various set-play scenarios though Mulenga nor Mapfumo were able to get anything on target.

Chippa regained some form of courage a littler later and had a looping header by Thabo Makhele following Mulenga’s cross sail over Sapunga’s goal.

Mulenga continued to pose problems midway through the second period as he played a pass through to Ayabulela Konqobe to charge clear and find the net.

The tempo began to subside well into the final exchanges, leaving the Rise and Shine to secure the win and end their barren seven-match barren streak in the process.

Confirmed line-ups:

Chippa United:  Nwabali, Kammies, Pietersen, Mokhele, Nhlaho, Poggenpoel, Mosele, Mulenga, Francis, Lebitso, Kambindu

Subs: Kazapua, Appolliss, Memela, Thabang, Luthuli, Martin, Mqokozo, Chabalala
