Richards Bay FC head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has explained why he would have ‘loved’ to play against Kaizer Chiefs in the upcoming weekend rather than on the 20th of April.

DStv Premiership action will come to a halt this weekend as the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals take centre stage with eight teams left standing in the competition.

For Bay coach though Vilakazi, this presents somewhat of a setback as he would have preferred to take on next league opponent Amakhosi while they were still 'sleeping'.

Chiefs are struggling through a run of poor form, with just one win in their last nine matches and two defeats in their last three.

The Soweto giants were handed a 2-0 slapping by Chippa United last Saturday just days after suffering a shock 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC.

The Natal Rich Boyz, stuck in 15th position on the log table, have not fared much better, with three defeats from their last five, but draw confidence from their 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows.

Speaking to the media after the match against Swallows, Vilakazi said he would have preferred to build on the momentum his side have and capitalize on Amakhosi’s struggles.

"I would have loved to play them (Chiefs) this coming weekend, but unfortunately we can’t, obviously there’s cup games," Vilakazi said.

"When people are still sleeping, you wish to get them that time.

"So, when they wake up, there’s a chance that they might cause problems. We would’ve really loved [to play against Chiefs] this weekend.
