Stellenbosch have managed to tie down two of their players to new contracts, including one who has been lined with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Full-back Fawaaz Basadien has put pen-to-paper on a long term deal with the Carling Knockout Cup champions.

Basadien's contract was due to expire at the end of the season and was reportedly attracting interest from Chiefs and Sundowns, but the club have now tied the player down to a new deal.

As a result, any club wishing to pursuit a move for the 27-year-old would need to pay a transfer fee.

“I owe Stellenbosch FC a great deal of loyalty as the club has added tremendous value to my growth as a footballer,” Basadien said, as per the club's official website.

“I believe the club is moving in the right direction, both for me as an individual and for the team, so it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to extend my contract in Stellenbosch.

“The new deal offers me the security and comfort to improve and develop my game even more, as well as achieve more success with the team and further my ambitions of playing for Bafana Bafana.”

The Western Cape side have also confirmed first choice goalkeeper Sage Stephens has also penned a new long-term deal.

Stephens has established himself as the club's number one since joining the club in 2020 and has gone on to make 86 appearances.
