It was a weekend of smiles yet again for Siyabonga Ngezana as he reached a personal milestone.
It was a weekend of smiles yet again for Siyabonga Ngezana as he reached a personal milestone.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana was on hand to deliver yet another polished display on Sunday night for Romania champions-elect, FCSB.

Ngezana played yet another 90 minutes as FCSB got past Sepsi OSK courtesy of a 1-0 win at home.

The latest set of three points - their 16th of the season, pushed the 1986 European champions to 54 points giving them a cushion of nine points with five games to play.

FCSB already have their place in the championship play-offs – where the top six play, secured.

In that championship play-off, the points accumulated from the regular season are halved and the six teams then play against each other twice to determine the league winners who then qualify for the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.

Ngezana’s team is now certain to go into the championship play-offs top placed as they have a nine-point lead over second placed Rapid Bucuresti.

Of note was the fact that Sunday’s game was the 20th that Ngezana has played since joining the Romanian giants at the beginning of the season.

The 26-year-old has played 90 minutes in 18 of those games.

He has put in a full shift in all but one of the last 16 league matches which has prompted speculation of a move to France.

On Sunday, Ngezana spent the night coming against former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Pavol Safranko who led the attack for Sepsi OSK.

It was the first time that the two came up against each other as Ngezana never featured in the two games that Safranko played against Kaizer Chiefs while the pair was in the DStv Premiership during the 2021/22 season.

Partnering Cameroonian Joyskim Dawa in central defence, the ex-Chiefs man had a polished display neutralising whatever Safranko, and his teammates had in the bag.
