Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has confirmed the status of Lyle Foster's injury.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has confirmed another huge setback for Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster.

The South Africa international missed his side's clash against Liverpool at Anfield last weekend due to a muscle injury.

Prior to his absence against the Reds, the 23-year-old had featured in seven Premier League games in a row following more than a month-long break from action due to mental health issues.

With the Clarets now in a worsening relegation battle ahead of the weekend's fixture against Arsenal, Kompany has confirmed they will be without their joint-top goalscorer, Foster, for an extended period.

"Lyle Foster won't be available yet," the Belgian tactician stated, according to the Burnley Express.

"He's undergone surgery for a chronic issue that needed attention. Although it's not the end of his season, he will be sidelined for a period."

When pressed for further details regarding Foster's surgery, Kompany declined, saying: "No, I believe that's sufficient information. You may enquire further next week or the week after."

The former Manchester City captain also addressed the recent comments made by Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, who expressed his disappointment at Foster featuring for Burnley after he opted not to be included in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad in December.

"I can explain it again," Kompany continued. "It's not frustrating; it's anticipated. Physical fitness and mental fitness are distinct matters.

"You may be physically fit, but mentally, you may not be in a state to commit to a month-long tournament.

"We've been transparent about this. Foster's rehabilitation journey extends beyond football; it pertains to life.”
